Manufacturing and Exploiting Compassion: Abuse of the Media by Palestinian Propaganda

Philippe Assouline,

  • Israel, a liberal democracy caught between tyrannies and sectarian violence, is increasingly perceived as uniquely evil.
  • In the struggle for hearts and minds, feelings trump facts. Imagery and accusations that automatically trigger public compassion are incomparably more compelling than dry, defensive argumentation. We are “wired” by evolution to support those we perceive as innocent victims in distress, even when the facts do not mandate such support.
  • The portrayal of Palestinians as innocent victims in distress has been the key to Palestinian propaganda’s popular success. Through the mass-production of heartrending imagery centered on children, staged “news,” manipulative rhetoric, and rigid censorship, Palestinian propaganda has successfully used the media to recast Palestinians as entirely blameless victims.
  • Moreover, a number of prominent journalists for international news agencies have concurrently been salaried employees of Palestinian administrations. Both Agence France Presse and the Associated Press have employed journalists with close ties to…

Nigeria: Muslims Slaughter Christian Family Near Jos, Promise To Return For More

MidnightWatcher's Blogspot

Morning Star News – “Muslim, ethnic Fulani herdsmen shot five members of a Christian family to death last week, including a 7-year-old boy, and killed another Christian as they fled, relatives said.

Alleged cattle theft may have been the pretext for targeting the predominantly Christian agrarian community, but the gunmen struck the family of 50-year-old Dung Peter only because his home on the eastern edge of Kunte-Kuru village, outside of Jos, was the most accessible for the guerrilla-style attack, they said.

As in other attacks by Fulani cattle herders, targeting a home on the edge of the village enabled the gunmen to slip back quickly into the bush before area Christians could defend themselves.

Gyang Musa Davou, 42, said his slain cousin – referred to as ‘brother’ in Nigeria – had returned from work at 7 p.m.

‘At about 10 p.m., he retired to his room to sleep, when suddenly…

Study: Almost 75 Percent of All Afghanistan Deaths Occurred Under Obama

President_Barack_Obama220px-MortDebarquementFor many years, this and other blogs have criticized President Barack Obama and Democratic leaders for their failure to pull out of Afghanistan after his election. There was clearly an unwillingness to risk the political costs of being blamed for a withdrawal or a perceived defeat. As a result, our personnel were left in harm’s way, even as the country’s president called us “demons”, our allies denied basic rights to woman and religious minorities, and polls showed intense anti-American sentiments. Hundreds of billions were spent to provide political cover for leaders who needed to show that they were tough on terror. Of course, many were made millionaires off the war while others paid the price on the ground. Roughly 75 percent of the fallen were from working class families. Now, a study by a conservative organization has shown that 73 percent of all U.S. Afghan War casualties…

Syria Crisis: Vladimir Putin’s Letter To America

Global Clarity

By Vladimir Putin, Russian President, for The New York Times
9:23am UK, Thursday 12 September 2013

Putin says events in Syria have forced him to speak directly to the US – here is his opinion piece in full for the New York Times.

Russia President Vladimir PutinRecent events surrounding Syria have prompted me to speak directly to the American people and their political leaders. It is important to do so at a time of insufficient communication between our societies.

Relations between us have passed through different stages. We stood against each other during the Cold War. But we were also allies once, and defeated the Nazis together. The universal international organisation – the United Nations – was then established to prevent such devastation from ever happening again.

The United Nations’ founders understood that decisions affecting war and peace should happen only by consensus, and with America’s consent the veto by Security Council…

Maaloula: The battle for Syria’s ancient Christian Village continues (Video)

Nice Deb

In this RT broadcast, it is reported that government forces have succeeded in ridding most of the town of the rebel Jihadist fighters, but snipers remain at hotel that stands on a cliff  that overlooks the village. As the news team tried to exit the town, their vehicle was fired upon, and they had to take cover in an ally where dozens of Syrian soldiers have also taken cover. One of the soldiers gets hit in the head with shrapnel.

Note that one of Obama’s  partners in the fight to oust Assad has planted the black al qaeda flag on one of the buildings.

A non-profit Islamic group in Florida is requesting that Muslim students be released early from public schools “every Friday” so children can attend mandatory prayer services, for under Islamic law, it is “sin” to miss the obligatory prayer sermon.

The Islamic Society of Tampa Bay Area published an official permission slip on its website for parents to “request early dismissal every Friday” for their children to “attend and perform the mandatory Friday Khutbah (sermon) and prayers starting at 12:30 pm until 3:00 pm.”

Exiled Ribal al-Assad: “We Should NOT Be Arming Syrian Rebels”

Taking Back America

Published on Jun 29, 2013

More than 100,000 people have died and millions have been displaced in Syria’s two-year long conflict, and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad shows no inclination to step down, nor, do the Islamist groups show any signs of giving up violence.

Ribal al-Assad, Mr Assad’s first cousin, says he does not expect the Syrian leader to leave the country of his own accord.

“He’s gone too far,” Ribal al-Assad, founder of the Organisation for Democracy and Freedom in Syria, told the BBC’s Katty Kay.

But he warns the US and other Western countries should reconsider supporting the rebels in order to avoid facilitating a fundamentalist take-over in the country.

He goes on to say that the rebels who are fighting the Syrian government troops known as the ‘Free Syrian Army’ and the ‘Supreme Military Council’ are made of ONLY Islamist Salafi groups. He mentions that a recent…
