Advancement: Arabs, who supposedly ‘brought Europe into civilization’, still favor Locusts as their favorite dish…

Locusts still a favorite dish for many…

Saudi Gazette: Wednesday, September 04, 2013 2:37 PM

A Saudi citizen and his son eat a dish of dried locusts in Hail. Despite doctors’ warning that eating locusts may result in poisoning because of their exposure to insecticides, many rural people still consider them a delicacy. They say that they have medicinal properties, especially for curing rheumatism, back pain, and pediatric hormone growth deficiency, in addition to strengthening the immune system and treating diabetes and colon problems. A bag of dried locusts costs about SR500 in the local market and they mainly come from Rabegh, Mastura and other western coastal regions. Some elderly people recalled that dried locusts were one of the main dishes for their Iftar and Suhoor meals in Ramadan decades ago.
